Fat Tuesday

Ron and I went to the Fat Tuesday parade in the historic downtown Galveston. The tourists have left by now and mostly the locals [BOI's (Born on the Island) and LOI's (Live on the Island which is me)] are left to enjoy the parade. While we were waiting for the parade to begin Stephen and Zane happened to find us and stayed with us to watch the parade. We saw the parade on Postoffice Street (yes that is how it is spelled). Cool floats and lots of beads. Since the parade starts on Postoffice then curves around and goes down the Strand, after we finished seeing the parade on Postoffice, Ron and I walked to the Strand and saw the parade again and collected more beads. They people on the floats seemed to be slower in throwing beads and they were not throwing as many unique beads as they had in past years. After the parade we walked under the Strand balconies to see if there were any unique beads being thrown. I did get 2 unique ones. The 1st was a medallion type bead. The medallion was black and red with a bat on it. The other was a really cool bird bead. The birds head, tail and feet move. It might be the best bead I have ever caught. Then back to Ron's were made dinner. We had meatloaf, mashed potatoes and green beans. A good tasting bottle of a Napa Valley, CA Cabernet Sauvignon. And a lemon square for dessert. It was fun evening.
