Road Trip

Today I flew to Boise, Idaho to meet my family AD, JK, DD and Mom. AD and JK are moving from Ontario, Oregon to Garden City, Kansas for a new gig so we thought it would be fun to have a road trip. So we traveled from Idaho to Utah and stopped at a hotel in Ogden. When we all settled in our rooms, they all went to mine to give me presents. I did not expect any so it was a surprise. They got me a portable DVD player and a DVD Sky Captain. It was so cool of them. Thanks.

My B-Day

This year my B-Day was not as big of a deal as previous years. Probably because of the trip I am taking with my family tomorrow. I had my B-Day lunch with my friends at the Mosquito Cafe. It is a cool place and the food is always really good. I go to eat lunch there with Cindy regularly and I always get the Lemonade Dream Cake. It is so good. Today I ordered it and since it is my B-Day, they gave it to me free. Yay!

Free Pizza

I have not written a quest for free food entry in awhile so here is one. Today was a new student orientation and with any orientation there is free food. So I went down to the atrium and had some pizza and diet coke. While there, I recruited a student interested in becoming a music major to take my music appreciation and fundamentals of music class and to join my choir. Pretty good for a free food adventure.

Bonus Day

Jennifer wanted a change of scenery and away from distractions so she can start writing a review that will be published. So I went up and brought her down to the island. We had lunch at Salsas, which she likes to eat at, and then put her on my computer upstairs and she started working.

For dinner we went to the Sky Bar. They had Nigiri Sushi for a dollar and a roll for $1.25. For Nigiri Sushi we had salmon, sea bass, red snapper and yellowtail tuna. For rolls we had Philadelphia, Roll on Fire and our favorite Dragon Fly. They were really good.

Wild West

Went to Wild West which is a country bar and dance club. They play music so you can dance Two-Step, West Coast Swing, Polka, Waltz, Cha Cha and East Coast Swing. Jennifer's friends and classmates also came. There is a free Fajita Buffet offered from 7-9pm. I danced with her friends Amanda and Natalie, her administrator Wanda and of course my beautiful girlfriend Jennifer.

The Music of Video Games

Jennifer and I went to hear a sold out concert of music from Video Games. It was a fun concert. It was performed by the Houston Symphony and Chorus. The concert included music from Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania, God of War, Space Invaders, Beyond Good and Evil, Medal of Honor, EverQuest II, The Legend of Zelda and before intermission was Tron. The original music on the music and video game was produced electronically. For this concert it was orchestrated and it was orchestrated very well. To me it was the best on the concert.

The 2nd half included music from Frogger, Kingdom Hearts, Myst, Sonic the Hedgehog, World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy, Advent Rising, Super Mario Bros and Halo.

It was a good concert with lights and a screen projecting scenes of the video game being played. Some pieces were arranged for the orchestra, some were originally written and recorded for the video game, like Advent Rising, with full orchestra and chorus.

Thought most of the music sounds like a score for Lord of the Rings, big and epic. But if it gets people who do not usually listen to orchestral music to a live orchestra concert, then thats good for us serious art composers.

Wacky Signs

George is going to move to Brazosport and wanted to check out the place and look at some apartments and since it is a place I have not been to, I went. Brazosport is an hour west of me. While there, we ate at Johnny Carino's which is a great Italian restaurant. Also here are pictures of actual signs in the city.
